Quality Practice
Aim and Goal
To increase the quality of care, capacity and efficiency of General Practice by providing training and support to General Practitioners, Practice Managers, Practice Nurses and Practice Staff that promotes a “whole of practice” approach to health care.
Major Achievements
Established in 2002, the Quality Practice Program started with a small number of activities from various other programs, including the GP Education Program.
This has grown to include:
§ Quality Practice Advisory Committee
§ In-practice Accreditation and Quality support from our Quality Practice Program Consultant
§ Practice Managers Network
§ A large and varied GP Education Program
§ Regular education programs for Practice Managers, Practice Nurses and Practice Staff.
Current Objectives
The Quality Practice Program is committed to continuous quality improvement, to ensure “best practice” for general practice, Practice Staff and most importantly, practice patients. Practice management solutions, and general practice staff training are the two key activities the Quality Practice Program endeavours to provide to its members to allow for continuous quality improvement to occur.
Over recent years, the Division’s commitment to general practice as a whole has resulted in the establishment of a variety of education groups that meet the needs of all members of general practice, including GPs, Practice Managers, Practice Nurses and Practice Staff.
The popularity of these groups is growing all the time and feedback from participants is very positive. The number of members (including managers, nurses and admin staff) that use the Division as a valuable resource for all types of information has also been evident as the success of these groups increases.
We currently have educational opportunities for each of the four specific groups:
General Practitioners
Practice Managers
Practice Nurses
Practice Staff
The Quality Practice Program endeavours to provide relevant support to its members, and does this through communication with members of the Quality Practice Advisory Committee, which is made up of GPs, Practice Managers and Program Staff, as well as with consultation with Practice Staff via surveys.
Through this consultation with members, the Program has developed a number of management solutions, and risk management tools such as an Incident and Injury form, and a Community Services Directory. Program Staff are also available to advise members on some IT/IM practices, and provide information on accreditation and reaccreditation.
