Immunisation

Aim of Immunisation
To support General Practitioners and their staff to implement the current National Immunisation Handbook, including the Australian Standard Immunisation Vaccination Schedule & National Immunisation Program, and the General Practice Immunisation Incentive Scheme.

Role of Immunisation in the Division
General Practice has an important role in immunisation through support of the implementation of government initiatives, including those aimed at limiting childhood vaccine preventable disease transmission in the community.

The Division works collaboratively with the South Australian Department of Health Immunisation Coordination Unit by employing a Local Immunisation Coordinator (LIC).

The Local Immunisation Coordinator aims to provide General Practitioners and their staff in the North East area with opportunities to increase their knowledge and skills as immunisation providers.   The LIC will also provide support to manage immunisation in General Practice whilst adhering to the best practice guidelines and recommendations from the National Health and Medical Research Council on behalf of the Australian Commonwealth Government.

The Local Immunisation Coordinator works together with other key stakeholders to promote Immunisation within the community at various community events and Centres throughout the year such as the Parent’s, Babies and Children’s Expo, Healthsmart Expo, National Playgroup Day, TAFE Colleges, Kindergartens, Playgroups, Schools, Aboriginal Health Centres, Hospitals, Universities and more.

Contact Sue Lake, the Local Immunisation Coordinator, at the Division if you require assistance or up-to-date information regarding Immunisation Management.
