Workforce
Workforce Difficulties Workforce difficulties are a fairly recent issue for this region. Of 48 practices that participated in the Practice Profiling survey in 2004, 23 (48%) believed they were experiencing workforce issues. Major concerns included filling staff vacancies (12 practices), GPs retiring or leaving the practice (7) and of the 23, 5 had closed their books to new patients. These 23 practices represent 54.6% (118) of the Divisions GP members.
Workforce Activities
-
Our activities focus on mapping and monitoring existing GP services and supporting practices to access various workforce programs.
-
Supporting GP registrars working within the Division in a formal arrangement with Adelaide to Outback is also a new strategy.
-
Supporting the development of the role of the practice nurse and the general practice team is seen as a fundamental strategy in addressing future workforce pressure and will be the activity into which most of our workforce energy is directed.
