Mental Health

The Adelaide North East Division of General Practice has shown outstanding commitment to the provision of mental health services for individuals with mental health issues over the past 5 years.  

The mental health team at the Division has provided:

  • Continual advice to GPs and health professionals 
  • Resources  
  • Mental Health Assessment Procedures Kit (MHAP Kit)
  •  'Hold On' Preventing Suicide &
    Self-harm resource kit
  •  Research on Eating Disorders
  •  Research on Multiple Sclerosis
  •  Research on Depression

The program also provides:

  • Evidence-based practice programs
  • Strong consumer & student involvement
  • Comprehensive resources
  • Specific mental health services requested by the Adelaide north-eastern community & other service providers
  • A multidisciplinary approach

The Division provides individual and group therapy for clients with mental health problems.  The group therapy model involves a range of psychological approaches and is free to consumers.  For more information on the group programs click on the links below.

The Institute of Psychiatry is offering the "GP  Scholarships for the Cross Cultural Mental Health Care in General Practice Unit" in first semester 2008.

  • The scholarship is limited to the fees payable for the unit.
  • The student must be a General Practitioner or General Practice Registrar working as a General Practitioner or General Practice Registrar for a minimum of three clinical practice sessions per week.
